A new decade's life update

久しぶり!

It has been a while.

My presence or lack thereof may or may not have been noticeable on social media, but I thought I'd like to address certain things that I've been asked and approached about multiple times in the past year.

Currently, I'm living in Japan (for all intense and purposes, I'm in Tokyo, but geographically I've moved to Kawasaki but it's literally across the river that separates these two cities). After my graduation from LASALLE, I travelled back and forth Japan and Singapore — most people know this about me. I jumped between these two countries for quite some time now, initially coming to Japan for fashion reasons but staying for completely other reasons.

With regards to my fashion career, I've put somewhat of a pause on designing and creating new collections. It has come to my attention that, while I still love designing elaborate and groundbreaking fashion, the business aspect of the industry isn't worth the sacrifice of my creative freedom. I've dipped my toes in the real fashion world and I didn't like what I saw. To succeed the way I wanted to succeed required some give and take, and I wasn't willing to give what was necessary for it to happen. My priorities changed since I graduated.

That's not to say that I've given up my whole fashion career. I'm still extremely passionate and driven in it — I'm just walking down a different path. I've always been more intrigued by bespoke and tailoring, and I have decided to change my route to focus and specialise in that. Past designs aren't available for purchase or loan anymore, and while I owe my achieved success to it, I'd like to have a fresh page to start for my tailor path.

(On that note, if you live/find yourself in Japan and interested in my bespoke and/or tailoring services, I'm easily contactable through email and/or Instagram. I don't usually accept any requests and clients overseas as it's a rather difficult task to perfect the fit and form, but still let me know if you're interested and we'll keep in contact in case I find myself travelling back to Singapore or other countries.)

I've also been pursuing another career path that has been showing quite a progress since I've started professionally doing it, and that's writing. I enjoy writing a lot, which is why I started this blog in the first place (even though I barely update it, but I have a lot in the drafts and in my laptop notes). Being able to call myself a freelance/remote writer is an honour ever since I started less than a year ago. I hope to receive your support as I venture further into writing. Most of my published write-ups can be found under "Publications" on my website (it may not be regularly updated, but rest assured I'll update it as best as I can, as often as I can).

My time has been split between these career paths and possibly others if I encounter them in the future — but I won't be certain I'd disclose them. My priorities have shifted and my future plans aren't the same as when I was still in fashion school. I hope this has cleared up some questions about my whereabouts and what I've been up to, so I wouldn't have to repeat myself once or twice more in the future. I am always open to conversations and chitchat, so do reach out in any case.

I am excited for a couple of things I have planned this year. Hopefully it will all be successful — keep me in your prayers!

Till the next post x
