What does "ruin your image" actually mean?

Who sets this said image?

Yourself? Your friends?

Why is it so important?

Why is it not?

Why should it be?

Why should it not?

Does having an "image" make you feel better about yourself?

Or is it a burden?

If it's the latter; why?

If it's the former; why?

Previously I thought holding up a camera pointing at myself would "ruin my image".
