A/W19 GIN OUKAM
GIN OUKAM is an abbreviation for GIN OOKAMI. In Japanese, “gin (ぎん)” has the meaning of silver and “ookami (おおかみ)” has the meaning of both wolf and great deity. With it combined, GIN OUKAM refers to the great silver wolf deity.
Silver is a symbol of purity and used in numerous mythologies through the centuries. The metal’s association with the moon is the most widely-known among them all, from it derived the phrase “silver bullet”, which refers to a direct and effortless solution to a problem. This figurative use derives from the use of actual silver bullets and the widespread folk belief that they were the only way of killing werewolves or other supernatural beings. As lycanthropes change into their beastly forms at the peak of a full moon, the divine power of the moon’s metal, is believed to be able to kill these mythical creatures.
GIN OUKAM is a Menswear Autumn/Winter collection that tackles the mentality of perfection — that not everything that’s perfect is good and not everything that is imperfect is bad — with the representatives silver and werewolves respectively while shining light on the beauty of imperfection by infusing an imperfect being (werewolves) as a visual representation of what is seen as perfect (silver).
「GIN OUKAM」は「ギンオオカミ」から略され、ギンは「銀」で、オオカミは「狼」と「大神」の意味を持ちます。それを合わせて、「GIN OUKAM」は銀狼の大神を表示しています。
